Caught by the Frizz? Summer Tips For Straight Hair.

Posted by I Love Fashion on Tuesday, June 8, 2010

For many women, summer only means one hair-raising thing - frizz. But fear not girls, as we reveal the complete top frizz-free guru tips!

The key to maintaining gorgeous hair is hair-care. Frizzy women generally think they were born with frizzy hair, but frizz is really actually breakage that occurs in wavy or curly hair by vigorous combing or brushing - especially when the hair is wet! Hair stretches much more when wet and should be treated gently, Try to avoid metal combs, which are very unforgiving to the hair.

Hair should be well conditioned with a rich moisturising product. Your hairstyle is also important, as if you hair is very frizzy you don't want too many layers. Have a few longish ones that will allow your hair to flow. Purchase a blow-dryer with a diffuser which will help control the frizz but will not remove all the wonderful body.

Another way to stop frizzy hair is the use of a frizz control product. This is not a shampoo or conditioner but is designed especially for controlling frizzy hair. Serums (don’t add too much) and gels are a lot easier to apply. The blow dryer you use is also important to those of us with frizzy hair. Modern professional ceramic blow dryers generate negative ions that make frizzy hairs lay down. As a result your hair will be wonderfully smooth and shiny with no stray fly-a-ways.

A good cut is very important to control frizzy hair. A blunt cut is usually best. If you need a more textured look ask your stylist to point cut it. Avoid the use of thinning shears or razor cutting. Thinning shears crush the ends of your hair and razors slice the ends, which encourages frizz. Professional hairdressers should also be able to layer hair to remove bulk and improve manageability.

GHD hair expert and Gorgeous Locks beauty product website owner Jo Robertson offers the following frizz-free summer tip summary;

1. Step 1: Frizz-Free Products
Apply an anti-humectant or silicone-based serum to your hands. Rub your hands together to evenly distribute the hair product. If, in your zeal, you wind up with too much product on your palm, just blot the excess on a towel.
2. Step 2: Scrunching
Coat you hands with product and begin to gently scrunch your curls from the ends of your hair up. Starting at the end of the hair shaft and working to the root, and not using too much, will help you avoid a greasy look.
3. Step 3: Scrunch A Bunch
Continue scrunching your curls until the product is evenly distributed throughout your hair. As you scrunch your curls will become more defined and less frizzy, as the anti-humectant serum seals the outer layer of your hair. The amount of product and scrunching you'll need depends on your hair texture; the more coarse your hair, the more serum and scrunching required.
4. Step 4: Finishing Spray
Once you have achieved, gorgeous, frizz-free curls, finish your hair with a light-oil based spray. This will add shine and a moisture barrier. Keep a travel-size bottle of the product with you for any touch ups during the day. Do not, under any circumstances, brush, comb or run your fingers through your hair.
5. Step 4: Continue to be gentle

Brush gently, use a deep conditioner at least once a week, and also have you hair trimmed regularly and your hair nightmares might finally be over.
